4.0 out of 5 stars Shimano Cleat pontoons, June 16, 2009

I ordered these cleat pontoons to see if they would keep my cleats from hitting my brand new tile floor. This they did. Even though my cleats are not Shimano nor the model these pontoons are only supposed to fit. I fit these pontoons to a set of Crank Brothers cleats mounted on Pearl Izumi Vagabound R3 road shoes. The right pontoon worked fine from day one but I had to modify the left pontoon a bit to get it to work with my Eggbeater pedals. Essentially I had to carve out a crescent shaped relief in the left pontoon so the cleat had room to engage the pedal. Once that was done these definitely are worth the small investment to allow some amount of walking around in road shoes without slipping or damaging tiles with metal cleats.

4.0 out of 5 stars They seem like well-made pontoons but didn't work for me, April 16, 2012

These seem like the typical high-quality item that many of the higher-end Shimano products tend to be.

Unfortunately they DO NOT WORK with CrankBrothers SPD eggbeater cleats.

I bought them to try them out because I couldn't find the Quattro 3-hole adapters but it was not to be. If you are looking to get pontoons for an eggbeater SPD cleat in order to adapt them to road shoes so you can walk around in them off the bike look elsewhere. Shimano makes a different 3->2 hole road-shoe converter with integrated pontoons and the Quattro 3-hole cleats from CrankBrothers can still be found if you look hard enough.

I don't blame these for not working in my instance. Nowhere did it say they would. I just took a chance and lost. They seem well-made and the rubber sections are just hard enough not to wear out fast but soft enough to have some traction. If I could have made them work with the eggbeater cleats I'd have probably given them a 4-star rating so... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars screws not long enough, December 18, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Shimano PD-7410 SPD Cleat Pontoon (Sports)
The screws that came with the cleats are not long enough. I'm using Shimano road shoes, Shimano cleats, and figured these would fit, since they're also Shimano.... guess not. 2 months later, I still haven't installed them, as I can't find the appropriate sized screws.
