This design is compact and was easy to install. I have two major issues. First, I don't feel like when I'm in the cages I'm getting as much pull on the crank. Meaning, the cages need to be more snug and supportive to facilitate good drive. Second, and this is a bigger issue, it's pretty damn hard to get your feet into the cages. Like most cages when your feet are not in them, gravity makes them flop down (which is fine). But, there's not enough pedal surface for you to easily kick them up and slide your feet in. Its been a month now and after a lot of riding I'm finally getting a bit better at it but it's much harder than I was anticipating. These pedals are great, especially considering the good price. I'd recommend taking the reflectors off the bottom first, as they decrease the amount of ground clearance you get when pedaling. They do need to be broken in, as mine were kinda flat when I received them. Also, be careful of the nylon strap, because they were so flattened, the nylon got stuck in my drivetrain. If anything, you can invest in some leather toe straps, but once you stretch them out, they hold your feet in place really well, and are plenty lightweight. I'd recommend this to just about anyone. They're good quality for a good price. If you are looking for a pedal that can take the abuse of commuting or the abuse of training, this is it. For $15 you will feel the difference immediately. Probably my best buy and choice between clipless, color pedals, or thrashing pedals. They install in a few seconds and works so well, I do not understand why everybody does not have a set. The problem with shoes-pedal combos is when you are at an intersection. The toe retention slides out freely if you are wearing Vans, Running shoes, or other. However, getting the toes back into the cage takes a bit of skill and soon, it is easy. Do not grease the cage or else it will be more difficult. There is no doubt this pedal is a no brainer and the best buy you can make if you have a road bike. If not it comes off in seconds. |
